When Lightning Strikes..[5]

Ajay came back to the compartment after a while to see Annie knealed down on the floor with her head buried under her arms in the seat. Was she crying? He went near her and called her name softly. She didnt seem to hear his call. Ajay now raised his voice a little louder and called her again. She lifted her head towards Ajay and he was right with his guess. She was crying. Her eyes had now turned reddish and so the tip of her sharp but cute nose. Ajay didnt know what to do or what to say to this girl who was now looking straight into his face. She looked so vulnerable like a helpless baby that he felt like taking her into his arms and comforting her. As if read his mind and understood his condition, suddenly Annie wiped her tears and got up and took the seat opposite to him. Then a little smile like thing appeared on her face. Ajay wasnt sure what it actually expressed..a small ray of hope or hopelessness to completely surrender to the future? He wasnt sure. Ajay thought this double-act expression of Annie was more natural and confusing than that of the famous Mona-Lisa. He too had a smile on his face now. They both sat there silently lost in their own thoughts until the loud shouts of "tea-coffee" echoed in the train. Only then Annie realized how hungry she was. She was literally starving for the past whole day even though they were earlier provided with food packets at the tents, which she had refused to eat out of agony and confusion that prevailed in her mind. Ajay had already bought some packets of bread omelette and two cups of coffee for them from the change he had in his wallet which was thankfully not lost among his other things back in the valley. He gave the food packets to Annie and kept the coffee cups on the square stand at the side. Annie was about to say thanks but Ajay had already said "No time for formalities now. Eat your food. You badly needs it now. Come on.." and he started to eat. Annie was left with no other choice and she slowly began eating. The bread-omelette tasted so good that after gobbling up some pieces, Annie really felt as if some part of her lost soul had come back into her through the bread-omelette pieces. Ajay had already finished his packet and was sipping the hot coffee, while persuading her to eat, in between the sips. Annie felt safe and secure at that moment which were the two feelings she had lost from the moment she lost her family and her home in the valley..

When Lightning Strikes..[4]

Ajay tried to bring a smile on his face soon after the initial shock that came from the sudden and totally unexpected gaze from the beautiful girl in white whom he was staring at. But as he did it, the girl had closed her eyes again as if trying to resume her half asleep state. Ajay didnt bother or rather dare to look at her again. He too tried to get some sleep after the hectic day which had totally turned him down physically and mentally.
It was almost daybreak when Annie opened her eyes. She was astonished to see the almost vacant compartment. It was in complete contradiction with what she saw just before surrendering herself to sleep. The man who was staring at her the previous day was still asleep. He was lying straightly with one arm over his chest and the other one over his forehead covering his eyes. He wore a pale-blue shirt and black pants. Like hers, his dress also had several mud stains and cringles. Maybe he too was alone like her in this journey. She sighed and looked outside for station names. Many of the names were written in languages that looked like strange images and the respective english versions were so long that it was impossible to pronounce rather than read.As time flew, sunlight was getting stronger and brighter and soon it was being impossible for Annie to look outside. A man in his fifties, who seemed to be the TTR of the train came in there and asked her something in a language which she didnt understand. With no other options available, Annie tried to wake up her neighbour who was still hand deep in his sleep.
Ajay was having a dream where he saw himself standing atop a snow-filled mountain and just when he was about to fall off it, a hand had touched his shoulder and when he turned back and opened his eyes, a sharp bolt of something very bright had struck his eyes. He was awake. The hand on his shoulders belonged to the girl-in-white-dress and the bright bolt was of the strong sunlight that filled the compartment. He felt something strange yet so warm and soothening when the hands had touched his shoulders. The touch was as if it was from the hands of someone whom he had been with for a very long time and someone he was very close to...like his mother's. He had never felt like this before with any of his friends including the girls who had been his buddies from the school and college days to the collegues with whom he had spent long hours in his office chatting and fooling around as well as when partying outside. He had never experienced such a strange feeling from the small touch of this stranger, which had brought in him a strange nostalgic feeling that was quite mystical.
His thoughts were paused to a sudden break when a rough hand had literally knocked him out of his berth. He sat up and it took some struggle to open up his eyes completely. He soon realized that the rough hands belonged the TTR who was sitting in the opposite seat, near the stranger who was now looking more beautiful with the innocent and puzzled expression on her face. The TTR spoke to him in a colloquial language which he was quite familiar because it belonged to the place where he worked currently and had his temporary stay in the one-roomed cabin house located in the outskirts of the city . The TTR got up and left the compartment after some more chit chat with Ajay. After he went, Annie expectantly looked at Ajay clearly wanting an explanation of what the TTR said to him. Before beginning, Ajay introduced himself to the girl and he came to know about Annie's wereabouts as well from her. Annie was very much relieved to know that the man spoke her language and seemed to be a decent guy. Ajay told her that the last station was just a couple of hours away and the TTR had come to say that they can contact the station master for any further information and help.
Annie thanked him and when Ajay went to wash his face, she found herself in a dilemma. The whole place was unknown to her, especially the language. She had no where to go and she knew no one except Ajay who was just a co-passenger and whom she had met the other day. Was it right to expect a favour from an unknown person in an unknown place. She was not sure of it and she decided leave everything to God. She closed her eyes and prayed with tightly folded hands silently with tears flowing down her cheeks...

When Lightning Strikes..[3]

Ajay stood by the door side, with his eyes closed, enjoying the cool breeze from outside that vapourized the drops of sweat from his face and arms. After some more time of relaxing, he slowly went inside the compartment. So many people were sitting and lying in the floor spaced in between the seats. Almost all the seats were occupied with people. Some of them sleeping ; some others staring outside with an expression clearly asking "what next?" to themselves ; little babies crying for food, and likely events. The somewhat relaxed and peaceful mind which Ajay had in him a few moments ago standing by the doorside, evaporated from him seeing those tense emotions of the various passengers as he was moving forward looking for a seat. Suddenly, a loud cry of a woman startled him. He quickly moved to the place from which the cry came. There, he saw a woman hugging tightly a man(probably her husband) who had a child of about age 4 in his arms. He soon understood the situation there. The wife was separated from her husband and child during the commotion. Luckily, the husband and child was also brought into the same train. And then the husband was on the search for his wife and now he had found her. It was the cry of happiness from that woman who, a few minutes ago, may have undergone many emotional traumas of being separated from her husband and kid and now realizing she hadnt lost them! The happy couple (eventhough happy the three of them were crying so much that the nearby people, including him, also had tears in their eyes) moved to the next compartment. Ajay found a seat for himself by the window side where the woman was sitting earlier.
Annie was startled to see the man, who she had seen struggling to catch the train a few hours ago, sit in her opposite seat where the lady was sitting a while ago. The lady had been eccentric from the beginning of this journey. She was crying, saying things to herself and hitting her head in the window panes frantically.. And now when she was found out by her beloveds, Annie desperately wanted herself to be in a similar situation..her papa searching for her and then finding her here. The thought itself had brought a kind of positive energy to her. Just then this man had entered into the scene where she was expecting her family. She hated him for that and she closed her eyes to continue to imagine the situation where her papa coming in and finding her.
Ajay was busy talking to the old man near him. The old chap was asking all sorts of questions to him like what had actually happened up in the valley, where was the train going, will they provide accomodation etc etc. Ajay was patiently answering to him with all the little knowledge he too had about the whole situation there. Only after the old man seemed to have been satisfied with the answers he provided, Ajay had been able to sit straight in his seat. Just then he saw the person who was seated opposite to him. She seemed to have been lost in her thoughts. There was clearly a blank expression in her face. The white dress that she wore was almost blackish brown with mud and dust stains. Still she looked very attractive with large dark brown eyes with thick lashes and the shiny-fair complexion. Her hair was also dark brown and she was struggling to tie up some strands of her hair that were flying in the air and her face due to the wind. She looked cute and adorable to Ajay. Just then she looked into his eyes which felt like two sharp needles piercing into his eyes...

When Lightning Strikes..[2]

Annie was pulled back to reality by another sharp lightening that had struck the glass window pane with a throttling sound. She then realized that whatever that had happened was not a dream. It was real...painfully real. She tried to remember exactly the dreadful events that had happened in the previous day with a hardening heart.
It was a normal sunday morning and as usual she was getting ready in her room to go to the church. The delicious smell of hot chicken soup coming from the kitchen side brought a smile on her face. It was clearly her dear old granny in the kitchen preparing her special recipe. Even after so many trials and keen observing investigation, she was not been able to find the secret ingredient that gave her granny's chicken soup, the most erotic smell and flavour in the whole world. According to her, her granny was the BEST cook in the world because she makes her favourite chicken soup! When asked about the secret, her granny had once told her that she gave a small portion of her heart to the food while making it...this was her secret ingredient! Her mother was not keen at making non-vegetarian food because she was a vegetarian by birth and all her life. Her mother and father was of different religion and still, after 25 years of content married life, they follow their own beliefs without a single grudge or complain from each other's side. She had always wondered how was it possible for her parents to adjust so well with each other's beliefs and blend them wonderfully with such ease and purity in their lifes and particularly to HER life. Annie was used to follow the two beliefs simultaneously without any effort since her childhood. In her prayer room, she had Jesus and Krishna side by side. The pictures of Mother Mary and Saraswathy were hung on the same wall. She read bible with her granny's helping hand and she was byheart with almost all the mantras that her mother used to say every evening. Thus until high school she was'nt aware of the fact that she was following two different faiths in her life. And when she knew about it, she was proud that she managed to do something which seemed impossible and unbelievable to most of her friends in school. She felt she was special in her own way and her faith in God strengthened even more. She used to boast to her friends that she had two Gods as her guardian and thus she gets the combined blessings of the two.
Annie had always enjoyed the down pours that frequently occurred in her hometown. It was during those times that she used to sit by her window side and enjoy the chicken soup and watch the rains. It was heaven. She had the most beautiful family and she was living in a place that resembled a second heaven to most of the tourists who visited there, with blue mountains, waterfalls, green meadows, and lots of coffee plantations.
Now Annie was not even sure whether she could ever see her place and her family, all because of that fateful accident that occurred the previous day - sunday. Annie straight away went to the kitchen after dressing up. She was wearing a white skirt which had shiny little white beads and a matching white blouse with a white scarf that had a silver lining to it. Her granny had always liked to see her in any dress that was white. She said that it was because her sweet little Annie resembles an angel from heaven and her papa used to tease her by calling her the 'local Cinderella' whenever she wore a white dress.
Annie was very much into eating the chicken soup from the moment she got the smell of it. But it was her mother's strict rule to eat only after the morning prayer at the church. Even though it was very early for breakfast, the alluring smell of the chicken soup made her feel very hungry. She kissed her granny hard on her cheeks and hugged her mother tightly inspite of her protests. Her papa was already in the garage doing his favourite pastime-repairing their old car with grease on his face and hands. She quickly said a bye to him and started to hurry up to the church with the hot chicken soup in her mind. She had barely reached the church gate when a loud thundering noise startled all of them. She thought it to be an unusual indication of a heavy down pour since the weather had been cloudy and dark for the past 2 days. But the next earsplitting noise completely changed her perception. The earth underneath her was moving. She could hear the cries of people down the church lane. Was it an earth quake? Should she run? But where? What about her parents and granny? So many thoughts occurred in her mind, but before she could think of anything else, she was pushed along with the crowds. The local militants and police-men were storming everywhere rescuing fallen people and moving them to the various buses and vans that were filled with panick-struck and totally confused people. The filled buses were rushed out of the place and soon Annie found herself sitting in one of the crowded buses that was now speeding its way to some unknown place. Annie was suddenly blacked out. When she regained her consciousness, she found herself in a tent which was filled with people who were injured and covered with blood. She slowly stood up found the way out of the tent. When she was outside, there she saw hundreds of similar black tents with people, policemen and armed people moving around. The place was filled with lot of commotion. Annie slowly started walking towards the nearby tentsand peeped into one by one, desperately wanting to find her parents and granny. After searching inside the last black tent, she was totally exhausted. There was no sign of her parents or granny. She was all alone there in an unknown place with full of strangers around. She could'nt recognise a single face that was moving around her. It seemed that an enormous disaster had struck the entire place of her hometown and the nearby places as well. She felt very weak to move and even to stand erect. But before she could turn, someone caught her hand and again she was dragged inside another bus and the bus started to move. After it seemed to be many hours and many stations, the bus stopped in front of an old railway station. She was automatically directed inside a compartment and was given a side seat. She didnt even realise the language of some of the passengers in the nearby seats. She wondered which place of the country she was in then. As her eyes were wandering in and around the station to find a familiar face, the train had started to move and then she saw someone running after their boggie to catch the train. The train was gaining its speed and the man was still running. Atlast he got a grip onto the metal rod and he got into the train. For a split of a second she gave a content sigh.
He stood near the door side with lot of sweat in his face and dirt in his dress. He was Ajay. He had been sent to this place by the company he works for a week's campaign. He was a design executive in the mechanical section of his high profile company. He didnt expect he would be coming back to his place bearing such a state of mind. Instead, when he was given this assignment, he had secretly planned a week long vacation in this exotic place after his long work schedules that seemed to have taken his soul away from him and made him a complete mechanical man or simply a talking machine.

When lightning Strikes..

Yippee! Today i got the first ever comment on my blog by someone i know, written by my class mate & friend, nibin..thank u for tht nibin.. And as per his suggestion, i m seriously thinking (or planning) to write a "Romantic story" (me??!!) in the near future.. As my experience of story-telling (or writing) lies only with & around fairy-tale characters & animals, i m verry much new to this area of writing; i.e., writing a romantic story or novel.. but i ve to admit that i like such stories tht are sensible & touching & have an emotional side to it.. so i m starting to think abt it & first of all, there shd be the naming ceremony.. any suggestions..?

p.s. The recent names(or titles) tht have made an impact(read impression) on me are the follo:
i : Out of the Blue..
ii : When lightning strikes..
iii : Lavender Dust..(my creation)
iv : Wild is the wind..
v : Dreams at the Fireplace..(mine)

okay okay...i finally made up my mind with "When Lightening Strikes.."..& i m planning to write it in many episodes (is tht wht u say?) to add some mystery & excitement ( i hope!) to the whole idea..SO here goes the short intro....

WHEN LIGHTENING STRIKES..

She sat on her bed with her arms folded and her head on her lap. It was still raining heavily outside. She could feel the chill of the air outside. She thought the weather was sharing a strange chemistry with her that perfectly and mysteriously linked with her emotions. It had been like this for the past three days...dark clouds floating everywhere in the sky. But she could see the silver lining and the lavender tinch that the clouds carried with them as they softly and slowly slided above her.. It was her favourite pastime..travelling to the mountains that were just a few kilometers away from her house on weekends or whenever she had her small small tantrums with her papa. Those mountain tops had always mesmerized her.. They gave her an alien feeling of being in a different world, just as when she had dreams..

She was Annie..

Your beauty lies in Innocence. You are kind
hearted and loving to those who have been
there all the way and even strangers at your
doorstep. Everyone loves you and you love
them back. You are also an emotional person.
You care for others' problems as well as
yours. However, there is a downside. Because
you are kind to anyone, stranger or friend,
you are vunerable to deception and heart
break. No matter, your personality is what
gives you the friends you love and the bad
experiences that will teach you some people
just aren't meant to be trusted.

My Lost Heaven..

I believe everyone will have a certain stage, a place or a part in their lives which some may bury deep down their memory lane & store in it safely & silently for the rest of their lives as a selfish possession ; some may share it with others who they believe can also savour those moments in life in the same way as they do.. i was in the 1st category until i started to blog.. i believe there will be pple who think & feel things the same way as i do.. so this is for them..
This memory of mine which i consider as 'My Lost Heaven' is where i lived my entire childhood.. It was my mother's house, for us it was our 'ammathu' ( meaning amma's home )There, i feel , i had everyone & everything a child could ask for..lots of love, masti, food, friends (who were staying in the 2 rented houses tht were inside the compound itself) & above all i had my 'muthassan'(my grandpa) who was my best pal & both of us were the main members (or maybe the only members! ) of the drama club which worked only in the lazy afternoons & the main ( read 'only' ) stage was the double-coated bed where we would be playing the following 'most-wanted' (by me! whoelse?) skits :

(i) me=>teacher ; muthassan=>student (or headmaster)
(ii) me=> the perfect girl in the whole world to such an extent tht even the 3 Gods (Vishnu, Jesus & Allah) invite me to their respective worlds in the heaven & reward me with lots of exotic food, presents & so on..
muthassan=> expertly plays the roles of each God with the apt background music (vocal) & slang

....the list goes on with a variety of new plays. I only remember the above 2 for now..
The members of ammathu were :
-> Muthassan (the man of the match)
-> Muthassi (the hands behind our survival primitives & objectives (??!)
-> Kochitta (adds as my aunt, sister, friend, enemy..- now happily married & who gave
me my junior companion/angel/devil/everything-achu)
-> Ammavan (man behind the small small tantrums tht prevailed in the home- now
happily married with 2 sweet little angels-Gayathri & Gowri)
-> Lemmi, Murugan, Selvi, Devi ( all the tamilnadu gang who acted victims to my pranks)
-> Doggies (Judi(a black dog), Pepsi(a cutie Papillon), Scooby(whose original name was 'muniyandi'!!)
-> Valleetta(my aunt), Sunilappan, Ammu, Appu : Regular Weekend guests - now settled in
Bangalore..

It was fun!! Total & Absolute fun!! I probably had the merriest & the happiest childhood any child could ask for.. My muthassan was a verry learned man in every sense. I realized that side of him only when i reached high school, when we were given many essays in general topics as home work & he was my complete encyclopedia..
During the evenings we used to sit together over coffee & some delicious home-made snacks ( by my muthassi) & each of us took turns to speak that day's adventures, events & hot-happenings.. The best part was the comments & jokes tht he used to crack in betwn & apart from being a good listener, he had his style of adding things in between : his experiences, his childhood stories, visions etc..

My muthassan is no more with us now..He 's gone far way from us..It was a heart attack on 1st April 2000 (his date of birth too!) that took him away from us.. That was it! Only then i felt & realized that how much a person could affect u & ur life.. The quote :
" Houses Are Made Of Bricks & Stones & It Is The People Who Live In There Makes It A
Home"
is absolutely true..This made me realize that the kind of strong bonding & attachment tht i had with my ammathu was only & only because of the people lived in there , especially him.. he was the pillar stone & the magnet that made us get attached to ammathu with such strength & passion.. Slowly things started changing - kochitta got married & moved to another house, ammavan also tied the knot & these things affected my life & routine that had abt 17 years history.. The ammathu that was literally a first home to me, became a place where my ammavan lived with his family , which i started visiting once in a while...

But still i have with me my precious possessions from ammathu- my memories & they are safely & deeply stored in my memory lane which brings a smile & a tear drop together whnever i make a visit to it...

The 8 Things Tag...

I have been tagged by naru (Narayan-my class mate).. The rules of the game are:
(1) The tagged victim has to come up with 8 different points of their perfect lover.
(2) Need to mention the sex of the target.
(3) Tag 8 victims to join this game & leave a comment on their comments saying they’ve been tagged.
(4) If tagged the 2nd time, there’s no need to post again.
So here we go...
Before we begin, i'd like to share my view (or rather my philosophy) abt love :
"Love will be most beautiful & enlightening whn the one u love loves u purely for wht u ARE truly & understands u to the extend tht even if u dont say anything, he(or she) will be knowing wht u wanted to say & stand by u in every circumstances.."
Also i m adding a quote abt the contrasts in love :
" Lucky Is The Man Who Is The First Love Of A Woman
BUT
Luckier Is The Woman Who Is The Last Love Of A Man "
Disclaimer=> The points that i write below r purely & wholly my visions abt my perfect man &
NOT my expectations abt him becoz i want me to like him (whoever he is) for wht
he is & i dont want to change him for any reasons of my own.. So these points r
based on the fact tht given a chance to marry a person of my choice, i'd like him to
be like this...
(1) Simple & Down to earth with lots of Charishma around him => We should feel that instant
chemistry & attraction for each other that we have never felt before with anyone. We should
have great admiration to each others talents & should be proud of each others success.
(2) Open & Understanding => We should find it easy & normal to love & respect each others
individuality. Never demanding or over-possessive, he should be a sensible person with no
airs or ego.
(3) Even whn we r talking for the first time in life, we should both feel that we have known each
for a verry loong period & we should be enjoying every moments with each other even if we
are both silent for hours..In short, we should be the best of buddies to each other..
(4) He should be intelligent & optimistic & modest at the same time. Success shd never make
him overly proud & nor does any failures make him deeply depressed. His head should be
firmly fixed on his shoulders & his feet on the ground always.
(5) At times of deep despair, depression or disappointment, i should be the first one he is
